Winfield was not the only place that flooded in Kansas over the Land Rush week. Wichita had similar rainfall those days as well.
When Dave Lizor and I went to play in Wichita, the Arkansas River (pronounced there Ar - Kansas River) was very high.
We got to Tony's house in time to shower and change clothes on Friday night. It had been Wednesday morning since either of us had taken a real shower. It was so nice. The storm clouds were really dark all the way to the R Coffee House (R for Riverside). We just got the last piece of gear brought into the venue when the sky opened up. It was another torrential rain. Really bad. The street was not safe for cars. The deep water flowing down the street came up over the sidewalk and was 3 feet from the coffeehouse door.
Luckily for us there were brave souls who came to the R Coffee House, on Foot. So we had a small but special audience.
The next morning I took a run by the Arkansas River in Wichita. There was a stretch of bike trail next to the river that I could use, but below the dam it was flooded out and a mile to the north it was flooded out.
