It was a sunny, dry 96 degrees on the spacious covered wrap-around patio at the Peace Tree Juice Cafe Friday. It was my first time in Moab and I was struck by the similarity to Lyons, CO as a "gateway to the parks" location. It was busy with tourists from other countries and lots of kids and bikes, hanggliders, kayaks, etc. It is nestled between the red rock cliffs of the Colorado river with a view of the San Juan Mountains to the east.
I was prepared for a typical resort restaurant show, but it is also a thriving artist community there. An artists took some of my CDs to give to programmers at the local community radio station there. Too cool. They also have the fanciest KOA campground on the planet. We are taking a pool, a go cart track and over 150 sites to choose from.
It was just a 5-hour drive to my daughter's house in Dillon, CO. I'm planning to return next year if I can.
